Comments: Highly successful concert enjoyed by the audience in a very close, intimate setting. The audience had lots of questions and it became a very interactive concert. Young Leo (Naomi's boy) stole the show at the end with an (attempted) solo on whistle as we finished "Sandgroper Serenade". A wonderful supper was provided by the residents (one of the reasons we love performing at retirement villages !!).

Comments: WAMO's contribution to the school fund raising concert (for their orchestra's trip to Malaysia) was well received by an enthusiastic audience. The highlight was our first performance of Orchestra Suite No 1 (Tober-Vogt) which startled and enthralled the audience with its percussive and dynamic nature. It received lots of positive comments afterwards - a real attention getter.

Saturday, 2:00pm 30th June 2007

5. Spanisch Impressionen fur Gitarre Solo & Zupforchester
   (Siegfried Behrend 1983)

Comments: A fun concert with the WA Classical Guitar Society orchestra conducted by Kevin Fraser and then Duncan Gardiner on the last two items. We had a large audience of approx. 200 people. A feature of the night was the world premiere performance of Suite in D by Robert Schulz, written for his young Winthrop Ensemble (five young boys who started on the mandolin about 18 months ago). Backed by the full orchestra, the boys did their best performance to date and impressed us all. Loads of fun - the audience loved it. Drinks and nibbles at Rosie O'Grady's afterwards completed the day.

              Movement 6 - Stomp

Comments: A concert which didn't go as well as planned (musically) but still enjoyed by the audience. A very nice afternoon tea followed.

Thursday, 2nd August 2007

*** PUBLIC CONCERT ***

Hale School Auditorium
(WAMO performing on one item only)

Programme

1. Suite No 2 (K. Wolki)

Photo taken at the Hale School concert where WAMO combined with the guitar students from Hale School performing Wolki's "Suite No. 2". Wolki's work is unique in the mandolin repertoire in that in some movements there are up to four separate guitar parts allowing for full expression of the guitars. An ideal piece for showcasing the Hale School guitar students. Thanks go to Marcus Roberts at Hale School for co-ordinating this event.

Saturday, 25th August 2007

(WAMO performing on one item only)

Programme

1. Suite No 2 (K. Wolki)

Comments: A repeat of the Wolki "Suite No. 2" with the Hale School students. Well received as the final item on the programme for that day, and a pleasant surprise for many guitar enthusiasts to see such a large ensemble of plucked string instruments.

Comments: This concert featured works by three West Australian composers - John Jooste, Robert Schulz and Robert Kay (see photo below). The concert was held on a very hot day with limited air conditioning! Never the less, a succesful concert well recieved by the audience. Robert Schulz's young Winthrop Ensemble stole the show with a performance of the music they will be taking to Sydney for the Federation of Australasian Mandolin Ensembles (FAME) music camp on 6-12 January 2008.
